Why 2026 is the Year to Visit Kayaköy in Spring: Blossoms, Rain, and Lush, beautiful Landscapes

If you are following our updates from Eden Villas, you’ll know that late February is an important time in the valley. It marks the transition from our quiet, wet winter into the first real signs of the spring season.

The First Bloom in the Garden

I took this photo today of an almond tree blossoming on our property. In this part of Turkey, the almond blossom is a famous milestone. It is the very first tree to bloom, often appearing while the air is still crisp.

While most people visit us for the almond harvest later in the year, these white and pale pink flowers are the first signal that the valley is waking up. By the time our first guests arrive at Villa Eden and Villa Amara in April, these blossoms will have turned into the first green leaves of the season, providing that natural Mediterranean shade we all love.

A Winter of Heavy Rain

This year, we have seen a significant amount of heavy rain here in Kayaköy (and Mugla Province in general). We’ve had several weeks of intense rainfall that have kept the valley damp and the cisterns full. While the winter was wetter than usual, this is actually excellent news for our 2026 guests. These heavy rains have soaked deep into the soil, ensuring that the gardens and the surrounding pine forests will be incredibly lush and green this year. If you are planning a visit in April or May, you can expect the wildflowers—especially the poppies around the Ghost Town—to be more vibrant than we’ve seen in a long.

Why April and May are Great for Visiting

If you prefer to avoid the 40°C heat of July or August, spring is the best time to be in Kayaköy.

  • The Weather: It is currently around 18-22°C during the day. This is the perfect temperature for hiking the Lycian Way or exploring the ruins without the summer sun.
  • The Atmosphere: The village is starting to stir. All restaurants and cafes are opening their doors, the air is fresh, and you can enjoy the Blue Lagoon in Ölüdeniz before the summer crowds arrive.
  • Local Food: The Fethiye markets are now showing the first spring produce, including wild herbs and local strawberries.

Planning Your 2026 Stay

At Eden Villas, we have used the quiet winter months to maintain the stone houses and prepare the gardens. Whether you choose Villa Passion for its privacy or Villa Amara for its views, spring is the best time to experience the “real” Kayaköy.
