Once again on this wonderful winter day I decide spontaneously, as I usually do, to have a relaxing hike to the Blue Lagoon near Oludeniz, Turkey. I would like to share this superb hike I had through the Ghost Town of Kayakoy and surrounding hill forest, with you.
I had left home and reached the Ghost Town after roughly 5 to 10 minutes walk on the path going along the forest. I then climbed up the steep incline of the hillside village using the old Greek stone “steps” located on the West side of the Ghost Town.
A few meters before the top of the hill I took the trek leading to the old orthodox church and went along the old Greek ruins that I mentioned in the blog post Introducing Kayakoy. No matter how often you go through the ghost town, each trip always feels like new journey through time.
From the church I continued my walk by climbing another steep incline passing through ruins and leading me to the bushes surrounding the Ghost Town. After walking up a few hundred meters I finally reached the top of the hill. The change of scenery during the walk is something truly fascinating!
This is a welcome sight because it does not only give you a sense of achievement but also it’s a tantalising glimpse destination and, better still, you know you are starting a descent from here!
My path led me through the forested mountainside where as I walked, got surrounded by pine trees welcoming me in a different world. As I carried on the way became rocky and very soon I got amazed by the stunning views of the Mediterranean. What a reward!
A few meters away while following my path I came through a little natural clearing with an old Greek cistern nearby.
From the clearing, the way becomes a steep rocky Zig-Zag descent with the sea on the South side of the mountain.
As I continued along the zig-zagging mountain path and enjoying the sceneries, I passed through a forest and a kind of natural garden, a big clearing. It is an ideal place to chill or have a pic-nic. I didn’t have one, however I had some water with me.
After Passing the beautiful clearing, my way continued through the forest in direction of Blue Lagoon.
Around maybe half an hour walk through the forest I got my final destination in sight; the Blue Lagoon!
I kept on walking without stopping until reaching the last steep descent leading me to the West side of the Blue Lagoon.
I was finally there and enchanted by the beauty of this typical Turkish Mediterranean coastline piece.
I hope you enjoyed the ride and the sceneries displayed on the pictures and the video. In case you need specific information about the region, please feel free to contact us at info@edenvillas-kayakoy.com.
Hopefully we get to walk together in near future.
See you soon
